Approximately thirty people from The Orange County/Inland Empire Urban Land Institute (ULI) Young Leaders Group visited The Roost to get a firsthand look at the recently completed adaptive re-use development. Comprised of three existing distinct buildings, and the addition of three re-purposed shipping containers to increase the leasable area, The Roost has already made a huge impact on the City of Santa Ana.

ULI members were extremely impressed with The Roost and said it was, “the hippest low-key project in Orange County,” and that the tour was, “the grooviest ULI event of the year!”
The tour coincided with the opening of Scoops Ice Cream, the first tenant to open in the fully leased development. Thanks to an announcement in OC Weekly and via social media, Scoops was packed with ice cream devotees the very moment the doors opened. Along with Scoops, future tenants to open include a food and beer garden, yoga studio, and a maker’s shop.

The developer Davin Gumm, architect Michael Bohn, and contractor Luis Soto, led the tour and spoke about the projects opportunities, such as the strong community presence, the eclectic mix of existing buildings already on the site, and the location being near the Station Transit Oriented District, which reduces parking requirements.

The mission of the ULI Young Leaders Group cultivates and engages ULI members under the age of 35, who are the next generation of leaders, to innovate and collaborate in an effort to improve the future of responsible land use.
